Rev. Rose McCurdy
My name is Rev. Rose McCurdy, and I’ve been living in Wisconsin since 2013. Over that time, I was ordained in Winnebago Presbytery to the validated Ministry of Hospice and Bereavement Care. On September 1, 2017, I became the designated pastor of First Presbyterian Winneconne. I served with Commission On Ministry and the Nominating Committee for the wider regional church. Before coming to Winneconne I filled many pulpits for my colleagues, worshipped and lead adult Sunday School at First Presbyterian Weyauwega, where my husband is pastor. As well as becoming a mother; in June of 2016.
I grew up in Dallas Texas, but you should know I am a lifelong Packer Fan, which is how I was convinced to brave the winters here! I've had special ministry training in Spiritual Formation and the Cultivation of Life-giving Spiritual Practices, lots of grief and loss support, and a love for the arts and creativity in worship. I'm a watercolor artist, who seeks to show Love and Grace through my everyday encounters.
Many describe my preaching as Conversational and from the heart. I try to be real, raw, and honest as a leader. I know that I too need a savor and I don’t claim to have all the answers. (despite having a masters degree in Divinity)
I hope that you will find us a loving and welcoming place.
I started working for First Presbyterian in September of 2011 and enjoy being behind the scenes. Many things have changed, but the Word of God and the willingness to serve others has always remained strong. I currently attend a different church body, but can honestly say the members here have welcomed me with open arms. They truly are a place of welcome! When life brings me struggles, I like to remember the words of the song “In Christ Alone.” God never leaves us so put your hope in Him.
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand
John Harmon was born in 1935 in Oshkosh, Wis. He began playing piano at a young age with his mother, who played mostly by ear. She taught him the basics, and the two harmonized tunes together. His exposure to jazz came early, too, thanks in part to his father's extensive collection of jazz records, which included recordings of such greats as Duke Ellington, Teddy Wilson, and Art Tatum. John graduated from Lawrence University in 1957 with a degree in music composition. A widely commissioned composer, John has written music for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, "The Orchestra" of Los Angeles, the Fox Valley Symphony, and the Santa Fe Chamber Orchestra. His music contains elements of jazz, as well as Americana and Native American influences. Many Sundays you can experience Songs that John has arranged. First Presbyterian Church is Vey lucky to have such an accomplished musician lead us.
Linda (Traf) Harmon
Linda Harmon is our weekly Organist for Worship services and she assists John in leading the Choir. Linda Harmon is a ragtime piano player who worked as an elementary school librarian before she retired. Linda lives around music because she’s married to a composer and she has two children who are musicians. She has a great sense of humor and a warm presence.
Jessica, a lifelong member of FPC Winneconne, is a Trained Ruling Elder with the Presbyterian Church. She enjoys the work she does with the youth of the church. Spending time with the youth and helping them grow in their faith has challenged Jessica to grow in her faith as well. Jessica serves on the Session, the Worship & Education Team, and runs the audio/visual for worship services. Outside of the church, Jessica works fulltime for 1st National Bank (soon to be Fortifi Bank). She enjoys reading, knitting, watching Dr. Who, and spending time with her fur babies. Jessica is also attending school at FVTC working toward an Associate's degree in Business Management.
